Here is the Death Rock that the grandmother had to veer around in the chapter "Kahuna Lady." This lava outcropping bears a human resemblance and legend has it that PELE touched it on the way to the Big Island, making it immortal. County workers gave up trying to move or destroy it so they just built the coastal road around it. There have been sightings of a beautiful Hawaiian girl seated on the Death Rock on full moon nights when the dogs howl.
